The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed in December 2017 changed the limit on qualifying mortgage debt from $1 million to $750,000 for individuals or married couples filing jointly, and from $500,000 to $375,000 for married taxpayers filing separately. Also, taxpayers may no longer deduct interest on home equity debt. Both of these changes are effective beginning in 2018.
